The people who chose to start something.
Building an inaugural residency is a deliberate act. Each person here said yes to a program that did not yet exist. They are the reason it does now.
To train compassionate, competent, and fulfilled physicians who inspire hope and deliver high-quality care for patients and their families, while also equipping residents with the skills necessary to serve as future leaders, educators, and innovators in our field.
To build a diverse yet close-knit community of residents, faculty, and staff working together to provide exceptional care while prioritizing well-being, professional growth, and lifelong learning.
Welcome to the Mayo Clinic Arizona Emergency Medicine Residency Program! We are proud to offer an EM training experience that not only supports clinical and academic excellence but also places the human experience, of both the physician and the patient, at its core. Our program is designed to cultivate well-rounded EM physicians equipped with the skills, confidence, and support necessary to thrive in any practice environment, with any patient population, and in any location. We aim to prepare residents to not only succeed, but to become leaders in their field, whether you envision your future in community practice, academic medicine, innovation, or a specialized niche within EM.
Just as important as our commitment to strong medical education is our belief that great physicians are also well-rounded individuals. As program director, I firmly believe that the best physicians are those who are supported in all aspects of their lives. We are not only here to train excellent emergency physicians—we are also here to support you as whole people. That means encouraging and celebrating your passions, your families, your personal growth, and your unique journeys.
Resident feedback is vital to continuous improvement, and we actively seek input to refine our curriculum, rotations, and well-being initiatives. Residents are encouraged to take leadership roles within the department and institution, shaping the future of the program while advancing their individual careers.
We invite you to explore what makes our program, and our people unique. We are proud of what we have and are continuing to build, and we look forward to training the next generation of emergency physicians who are ready to grow, lead, and thrive.
